'Green Week' is a student led campaigning and awareness week organised by your very own

Ethical & Environmental Officer at Winchester Student Union. 

This year Winchester Student Union has proudly worked and collaborated with the University of Winchester to make Green Week even bigger and better!

Green Cafe Afternoon in the Chapel 13:30-15:30 - Come along to the chapel for an afternoon of climate change and environmental discussion, along with some free tea and cake!

Coffee Cup Discount Launch

The university will be launching its brand new coffee cup discount! Use your reusable cup everyday when you are buying your coffee/tea, and you could save money!

​

#doyourbitwinch hashtag launch

The #doyourbitwinch hashtag launches on the first day of Green Week.

This campaign aims to encourage people to post pictures of themselves doing something green on Twitter, Instagram, etc, with the hashtag. The long term hope of this campaign is to encourage behaviour change...

It's all good fun too! :)

 

Tuesday 8th November

Big Fat Quiz 'Green' Edition - Food Hall

Big Fat Quiz with a twist! Bonus Green quiz and picture round with the chance to win Ben & Jerry's for the winning team!

Sycamore Pulling 14:00 - 16:00 - Meet outside the KKB back entrance, by the outside seating area - THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST.

This is a very hands on activity and if you fancy something a bit different this is for you. As part of the Biodiversity Action Plan for the university, the removal of Sycamore seedlings is essential.

The amount of people that will be able to take part for this activity will be very limited, so if you would like to get involved please email me at: SU_environment@winchester.ac.uk More details to follow shortly.

 

Wednesday 9th November

Bike Doctor 9:00 - 15:00 - Outside the entrance to the University Centre, Lvl4

Bicycle maintenance for FREE.

Bring your bike along for some TLC! Come along early to avoid disappointment!

Meat Free Wednesday - Food Hall

Meat free options in the food hall!

Vegan Sweet Food Tasting 12:30 - 14:30 - Food Hall.

Yummy scrummy food tasting held by the Vegan Society.

 

Thursday 10th November

Bike Auction 11:00 - 14:00 - Outside the entrance to the University Centre, Lvl4

Pre owned bikes up for auction, and green transport information from the university. Proceeds from the Bike Auction all go to Re-Cycle - Bikes for Africa

Wildlife Pond Maintenance 15:00 - 16:30 - Meet outside the KKB back entrance, by the outside seating area

Pond Clearance is part of the university's Biodiversity Action Plan. Again another hands on activity, but good fun! If you want to get involved, please email me at SU_environment@winchester.ac.uk as places will be limited.

If you do get a place, don't forget to bring some wellies and wear some old clothes!

NUS SnapItOff Walkabout & Social 18:00 onwards - Meet outside SU Shop.

In a bid to reduce the energy we use here on campus at Winchester, the aim of this walkabout is to see how many lights are being left on here at night.

During the walkabout we will take pictures of these lights that are being left on and post them to the NUS SnapItOff website. Friday 11th November

Campus recycling information and competition 10:30 - 14:00 -University Centre, Lvl 4 by P G & Wells. 

A stall will be situated in the University Centre, Level 4 (next to the bookshop) with information on campus recycling. If you're not sure what is recyclable or if you're just interested in how we recycle our waste here at Winchester come along! Prizes are also to won!

NUS Blackout 19:00 onwards. (Volunteers for this have already been recruited)

BLACKOUT IS BACK and this year it's even bigger! We'll be covering more of the campus turning off as much as we can to reduce our carbon footprint!
